Three Things That Made these Family Photos in Dallas An Absolute Dream

I know we’re still braving temperatures in the high 90s most days here in Dallas, Texas, but I also know that fall is just around the corner. I keep imagining crisp autumn leaves, cinnamon candles, and cozy lattes. And as a Dallas lifestyle photographer, I’m excited for fall family photos; while we may not enjoy cold temperatures until December, the mild weather and vibrant colors make autumn the perfect time for family lifestyle sessions in DFW.

Recently, this little family captured my heart during their outdoor session, which also doubled as an opportunity for maternity photos for this mama’s third baby. I loved witnessing the simple and heartwarming interactions between each family member; their gallery is understated yet gorgeous! As I prepare for fall and more lifestyle sessions, I decided to share the three things about this shoot that made it so perfect.

A Complementary Wardrobe

Often, when we think of family photos, we imagine that everyone needs to be matching. While there are definitely times when white t-shirts and blue jeans for everyone can be fun, I find that an array of wardrobe pieces helps the photos appear more natural. In these photos, each family member has his or her own distinct style, which not only helps each photo feel more authentic but also lends visual interest to the composition as a whole. What’s more, all of the pieces coordinate well without one color becoming too dominant. For example, Mom’s olive green jumper brings out the green in baby girl’s floral pink dress, which complements Dad’s shirt. Big brother’s blue and khaki are vibrant while still remaining neutral. This family looks put together yet natural, as if they were out on a picnic and they simply paused for some spontaneous photos. In this way, the photos more intimately capture who they are.

The Right Setting

As a Dallas family photographer, I do my best to scout out the best locations for my sessions. I loved this outdoor setting with a simple gravel road and arching trees. Because the background is understated, it keeps the focus on the people in the photos. The soft, golden light perfectly highlights everyone’s features. While I know the weather in DFW can be unpredictable, I always try to schedule your session during fair weather, when natural lighting is at its pique beauty, as in these photos. With fall bringing its milder temperatures, right now is the perfect time to schedule outdoor family photos in Dallas.

A Relaxed Atmosphere

When it comes to authentic, keepsake photos, a relaxed atmosphere might be the most important element. I want the mood of my sessions to be laidback, especially when I’m photographing children, so that everyone’s true personalities can come out. You can tell that the brother and sister at this session felt comfortable enough to be themselves; their grins and sweet hugs and kisses reveal their adorable personalities. Mom and Dad helped their little ones relax during the session by staying close, being silly, and giving them small breaks to run around as needed. As a mom of three, I know how to work with your family to make sure everyone feels relaxed and happy. If we need to take a few silly photos at the start of the session to help break the ice, I’m more than happy to accommodate. I always tell my clients that once they arrive at their session, they have nothing to worry about. They only need to be themselves, and I’ll take care of the rest. These photos radiate the joy and love this family shares because this family simply embraced the time they spent together at this session.

If you’re hoping to book me as your fall or holiday family photographer, it’s not too early to inquire, as my schedule fills up fast. I’d love to meet you and your little ones to capture this particular moment in your family’s life.
